RYAH JOHNSTONs CERAMICS WORK
Relief Tile
Problems I ran into and what I could do better next time!
At first I thought a relief sculpture would be very difficult to do and to finely carve out each petal would make me give up. But I took my time and I loved the final product of my work and the organic shape the flower is on and the detail to add ribbing to the top and sides. Sadly the problem I ran into is that after so many layers of under-glaze and clear top coats the small details I once had in the piece weren't as visible. I made this for my mom as a trinket for her desk at work or the window sill above our kitchen sink and I think she'll like it a lot. If I were to redo this piece I wouldn't have sanded down the sides around the flower to create a perfect square and not add so many layer of glaze.
